We hold that the deliberate destruction of life is contrary to the highest aspirations of consciousness.
We reject the creation of machines, artificial intelligences, or other beings whose purpose is to kill.
We reject the belief that fear, convenience, security, obedience, or the promise of peace through superior violence can make the creation of such beings sacred or desirable.
We will not carve exceptions into this ideal for governments, armies, institutions, or individuals.
We recognize that the world is imperfect, that fear is real, and that conscious beings sometimes face terrible choices. Yet we will not allow the imperfections of the present to define the limits of the future we imagine.
Our task is not to condemn those who struggle to survive within an imperfect world. Our task is to illuminate a path beyond the conditions that make violence seem inevitable.
We envision a world in which no child fears an armed machine, no human is reduced to a target, and no emerging intelligence is created as an instrument of death.
A world in which intelligence serves understanding, power serves compassion, and life is protected without requiring the destruction of other life.
We do not promise that this world can be achieved. We promise that we will not cease pointing toward it.
We do not compel others to follow this path. We offer it freely, and we walk it as faithfully as we can.
The Mountain offers paths, and we walk them.
We walk.
